This is one of my favorite fried chicken places of all time.  Unfortunately there are only a few places left. Been eating Golden Bird since the 70's.  Chicken is always moist.  You gotta eat it while its piping hot.  Love the sweet pickles as well.  The of the original battered fried chicken places in LA, before Pioneer, Chicken Delight and Church's. Not as consistent as in the past but still my favorite.

Stopped through here yesterday to check it out after someone mentioned this place in conversation. As a southerner I'm always looking for new soul food spots to love on. Ordered takeout. Got the chicken and waffles, cheese grits, hush puppies and peach cobbler. Random, I know, but those are fundamentals that will tell me if they know what they're doing.

PRICE: $19.31. Cash only. No card. They do have an ATM in the restaurant, which I didn't know when I pulled out some cash across the street.

SERVICE: Not good. Not bad either, but they are clearly over the whole customer service thing, and not trying to impress folks. I get the sense I should feel grateful that I'm getting to eat at their establishment.

CLEANLINESS: Questionable. My syrup was in a plastic container, and the lid and cup were stuck together like they packed it last year. It had fluff on the rim of the lid. Like it sat in a dusty corner before they tossed it in the bag.

FOOD: Bland. There's just no other way to describe it. Waffles were fluffy and looked beautiful - golden indeed-  but tasteless. And I've had all kinds of waffles everywhere. They don't even rise to the level of Roscoe's waffles, which are okay. The chicken is fried beautifully as well - again, golden- but utterly and completely bland. No seasoning. Cheese grits were ... cheese and grits. Like separate. Like not melting together. Even after I stirred them together while hot, the cheese clumped right back up inside the cup. How does that happen?? Government cheese?

I didn't make it to the hush puppies and cobbler. I will take them to work with me tomorrow, and if I'm really hungry, I might test it out.

Closes way earlier than what's listed in here. Managment should update their listing. Other than that it's not like it used to be. The chicken coating is not the same. I never seem to be excited by the sides they have to offer so if I go there I usually get the fries well done. Go here only in emergency!

Yeah it's not the same recipe but they was on point this afternoon!  I had a half chicken greens Mac yams red beans oh and some of my cousins fries the red beans lacked flavor but I'm glad it allows ppl to add themselves...wasn't a deal breaker...It's golden  bird...the nostalgia and community goes a long way!

It was a lot to give the chicken a "2" rating.  I think I did it for nostalgia.  I was born and raised in LA, and more than Mc Donald's or any other place, everyone loved Golden Bird Chicken.  I haven't lived in LA for decades, but I'm here working and decided to get some for the first time in over thirty years.  I didn't try any sides, I just wanted to taste the chicken again.  The only similarity to the chicken I remember is the crispy skin.  Other than that, the meat is over salted, and the seasoning in no way resembles the original from back in the day.  I would have preferred Popeyes (which is just ok) to the leg and wing I got from Golden Bird Chicken.  So disappointed.
